Brooke Senior

Brooke Senior, LCSW-C, received her Masters in Clinical Social Work, with a focus on Behavioral Health, from the University of Maryland, Baltimore, in 2016 and is a licensed clinical social worker in the state of Maryland. While in graduate school, Brooke was introduced to dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) and became fascinated with the benefits of learning and applying skills in the areas of mindfulness, emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness to both emotional and behavioral difficulties, as well as the benefits of using the skills in life, in general. Brooke has also done significant research on experiential interventions and wilderness therapy, and was fortunate enough to study in Southern India, which emphasized her strong belief in the mind-body connection, and the benefits of “thinking outside the box (or in this case, the therapy office).”

Brooke has worked with children, adolescents, adults and families in a variety of settings, including outpatient behavioral health clinics, intensive outpatient, partial hospitalization and residential programs, the school system, wilderness education, and correctional facilities and specializes in working with adolescents and young adults with mood disorders, personality pathology, suicidal ideation and behavior, and self-harm, as well as supporting and coaching parents and families in identifying and addressing their own skills defecits.

Brooke has completed DBT Intensive Training through Behavioral Tech, with additional training in DBT with adolescents and families, DBT-C (DBT for Children and Parents), DBT Prolonged Exposure Protocol for PTSD, and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Through Brooke’s wide variety of experiences, she has grown passionate about incorporating experiential activities into the DBT framework as a way of engaging with presenting concerns and difficulties in a different way. Brooke stands by the maxim, “There is no health without mental health” and believes that, with willingness, skills practice, and a strong relationship with your therapist, building a life worth living is possible.

As a member of Rathbone and Associates’ DBT team, Brooke provides individual therapy, group skills training, parent coaching, family therapy and serves as a field instructor and supervisor for clinical social work interns from the University of Maryland.
