Sheri Barnett

Sheri Barnett, LCSW-C has extensive experience working with adolescents, young adults and their families in the treatment of depression, anxiety, school avoidance and underachievement. She has particular expertise in working with the LBGTQ community and with families who are seeking appropriate supports for their student in school.

Ms. Barnett believes that positive outcomes are best realized through relationships built on trust, transparency and mutual respect. She is unusually successful engaging young people who may be resistant to therapy. She formulates and implements effective and practical interventions. She uses techniques from cognitive behavioral therapy and other evidence-based interventions.

Ms. Barnett presents to professional and parent groups on a variety of subjects including topics relating to LBGQT youth, suicide assessment and prevention, and parenting to develop capable people.

Ms. Barnett earned her MSW at the University of Connecticut School of Social Work and continued her association as an Adjunct Professor supervising students in their placements. She has been appointed to the Connecticut Cadre of Professionals Supporting Sexual Minority Youth and the Town of West Hartford Task Force on Mental Health and Addiction. She was instrumental in producing and implementing the “Student Assistance Model” to support students with issues impacting school performance. Ms. Barnett won the highly acclaimed “Teacher of the Year” award in Connecticut for her dedication and skill as a school social worker.
